Browning Mill Pond & New Boots

1.62 miles  2 mph

we’ve been very lucky with the weather so far this year. again, another day in the mid-60s and sunny and beautiful. this trail, while flat and short, had some slightly more challenging stretches with lots of rocks and some sharp ups and downs. i got a brand new pair of hiking boots, llbean gore-tex cresta leather and fabric hikers, which are massive and stiff right now, and i wore my new boots and felt just fine the whole way. i think i really need to start upping my mileage.

the trail

it looked to me as if they (the amc) just refreshed the blazes on this trail, as they were un-missable!

ccc shelter

ccc shelter

there are the remains of an old ccc trail shelter on this trail. i was told that it was torn down (or at least the roof taken off) because it was just too close to the trail and got vandalized too much. shame. it’s quite a sturdy-looking thing.

this is a dramatic-looking old snag on the fish hatchery grounds. not sure why the fish hatchery was abandoned, but it kind of looked to me today as if it was at least minimally being maintained. all the paths between the ponds had been mowed and old branches and downed trees were cut up and neatly stacked off to one side.

fall color on the pond

we still have so much color in the woods right now. it’s really amazing. i love how it gets reflected. double the color!

you can find the browning mill pond hike in the hikefinder.
