Francis Carter in June

★★★★½  3.47 miles

i just noticed that monday’s post was my one-hundreth post on this blog, and i’m close to 300 miles hiked for 2012. what is it about round numbers we love so much?

i hiked the lovely francis carter preserve in charlestown again today with the usual suspects hiking group. the indian pipes are up and this forest still has an open feel because of the low-growing understory of low-bush blueberry, huckleberry, and bracken fern. we went early and cut it kind of short, though, because of the heat, which, although seasonable here for this time of year, came as kind of a shock because it’s been so unseasonably cool for the last few weeks. also, too, i forgot my camera in the car, so old pix. just imagine green shrubbery where the brown leaves are, and leaves on the trees.

imagine with lots of greenery
