My Favorite Local Hikes

It took me a quite a while to even come up with a name for this page. I started with “10 Best Hikes.” Then I thought I didn’t want to limit myself to a particular number, so I tried “Best Hikes,” but that seemed a little terse to me. And “Best” according to what criteria? I didn’t want to limit myself with a bunch of arbitrary rules either. Okay, how about “My Favorite Hikes?” That one sat up there at the top of the page for maybe 15 minutes, until it occurred to me that talking about hikes in Ireland or Arizona would be a little off topic for this whole blog. I’ve settled (for now) on “My Favorite Local Hikes.” And by local, I mean southeastern New England, i.e., Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island—mostly Rhode Island.

Also, this page and the associated pages are works-in-progress. I will be adding to this page as the mood (and the hike) strikes me.  And as conditions change or trails get re-routed, I plan to update the individual hike pages as well. So stay tuned.

If none of these hikes do it for you, don’t forget to check the hikefinder. Not feeling like anything listed there? Go to Trails and Walks in Rhode Island, Looksee-RI’s hiking map or ExploreRI. Still not enough choices? Try checking out Looksee-RI’s hiking resources page. And if you still can’t find a hike to strike your fancy, you’re just not trying hard enough!

Now with no further ado, here are the hikes. They are listed in no particular order, except maybe creation date.

• Long Pond/Ell Pond

• Green Falls Gorge

• Tri-State Trek

• Tefft Hill from the State Garage

• The Grills
