Trustom Pond Wildlife Refuge

★★★★½ very similar to ninigret, but without the cool history of having once been a naval air station. fewer miles of trails, too. but very nice. 100% walkey. no climby. just what i needed after yesterday!   since i won’t be going out tomorrow (lunch and a movie with a friend), this means i’m done. […]

Legendwood/Narragansett Trail

★★★ wow. seriously challenging hike. 100% hikey, severe climby parts. just all around tough walking. but it was my first hike with my new gps, and i LOOOVEE my gps. even if i can’t yet figure out the whole geocaching thing, i always knew exactly where i was in relation to the car. very cool. […]

Weetamoo Woods

★★★★½ beautiful property, full of beech groves and mountain laurels. about 70:30 hikey:walkey, little to no climby. well-marked trails. a little wet here and there, but that may just be due to recent weather. deserves another visit.

Francis Carter Preserve & United Nuclear

Rocky Neck State Park

★★★★½ only thing keeping this from being a 5-star experience is that it’s a 35-minute drive from home. wonderfully varied terrain, about 50:50 walkey:hikey, a little bit climby but not too bad. wonderful views from “tony’s nose.” i wonder who tony was?

East Beach

★★★ only 3 stars today because it was so darned cold and just plain unpleasant walking back heading into the wind. so glad i didn’t try to get all the way to the breachway. brrr… should have stayed inland, where it was in the low 50s.
