Arcadia WMA, Mt. Tom Trail to Stone Chairs

great day for a “usual suspects” hike in arcadia. we chose the mount tom trail, but only went as far as the stone chairs which are on the ledges. the mount tom trail continues across route 165 and ends at the escoheag trail.
this hike was a regular wildflower bonanza. there were galaxies of star flowers, and the lady slipper orchids were so common we eventually even stopped remarking on them. this is a small patch on the mount tom ledges.
someone strung up some prayer flags above the stone chairs. if you’ve never seen them, they are very cool. there is seating for at least four, with arms and backs, surrounding an illegal fire pit. it was a perfect spot to stop for lunch before heading back.
there is one stretch of the trail where you have to venture out onto route 165, which is where i saw this little fellow. he looked as if he had just emerged from his cocoon.
i have added this version of the mount tom trail to the hikefinder.
