technically, this hike also includes a section of the john b. hudson trail, which we picked up at its intersection with the shelter trail. no one i know is a particular fan of that section of the shelter trail, which follows the east bank of breakheart brook as far as breakheart pond.
whew. this hike was more strenuous than i remembered, and it kind of kicked my ass. still… good day. it was cool and overcast.
above is a shot of the old fish ladder at breakheart pond. not sure why it was abandoned. that’s a large swamp maple tree growing in the middle of the waterway.
a pretty little trailside waterfall on the breakheart trail.
the return of the fungus shot! no idea what it is, so don’t ask.
you can find this hike in the hikefinder under arcadia wma, shelter/breakheart trails.
