Ashland State Park

4.23 miles   ★★★½

took a brisk stroll around a very pretty reservoir in metro-west boston. that was also the bad news… i was walking in people’s back yards, and there was constant road noise. but it was still a very pretty place. best part is my dh and i had our 3rd date here, many years ago. it was a picnic and we fed ducks. so romantic. saw no ducks today.

path across the reservoir dam

the path started off nice and smooth, but soon became very rocky and root-y. i saw several people running, and i can’t for the life of me figure out how they keep from tripping or turning their ankles. ah, youth.

bridge

there was a huge granite block sluiceway at the end of the dam with this nice little footbridge crossing it. it must have been a big wpa project.

fungus shot!

it was a gloomy, overcast day, but that somehow suited the place. the sky was perfectly reflected in the water.

beaver activity

there was even extensive beaver damage to a lot of the trees at one end of the reservoir. not something i would have expected to see in busy metro-west.

you can get a trail map of and information about ashland state park from the massachusetts department of conservation and recreation.
