Beebe Pond Park

2 miles, groton, ct
i initially meant to make this an exploration of both beebe pond park and the avalonia conservancy’s moore woodlands property, but between getting lost and the heat, i decided to call it a hike after just beebe pond. the loop trail around beebe pond is a nice hike around a small overgrown pond in the middle of suburbia, but it felt very far from civilization. unfortunately, confusing blazes and no available trail map put me out into a neighborhood, and i had about a 1/2 mile of road walking. that part was no fun.
i mean, what does that even mean??? i had no idea. adding to the confusion is the town of groton’s “cross-town trail,” which is blue blazed. the trail i was trying to follow turned out to be a darker blue blaze that was faded and hard to see.
the part of the trail that did not hug the shoreline of beebe pond looked mostly like this. flat, level and clear. the shoreline trail was a lot of boulder/rock scrambling, but nothing too intense.
and here is the pond. it’s pretty quiet and remote-looking. very peaceful here.
there was a stretch at the beginning of the trail that hugged a field, and it was filled with all sorts of brambles, including these yummy black raspberries.
i have added this hike to the hikefinder, road-walking detour and all.
