Black Farm with the PCHC

2.1 miles; Hopkinton, RI
This was the first of what would eventually be four hikes in one day. Not that any of them was especially long, but hey, four short ones adds up! I couldn’t resist joining the Providence County Hiking Club on this first one today because 1) this place is about 7 minutes from my house and b) it is literally my favorite property ever. The header on this blog is Black Farm, after all!
There are several places in this walk where you cross the Canonchet Brook, and we spotted these brilliant Cardinal flowers at one of them.
While not on the main path, this old family cemetery is totally worth a detour.
The cemetery is nicely maintained, and someone has been quite consistent in putting American flags on the grave of this young Civil War soldier.
You can find out more about Black Farm from this “RI Hunts” website (the property is maintained by the state as a hunting area… blaze orange is a requirement during the season). As always, click the image above for details about this hike and to download the gps track.
