Browning Woods Trail
Posted By auntie on October 12, 2013

decided i was ready for a real walk, so i revisited this trail which i had done last february with the usual suspects. we did the entire 3-mile trail that time in spite of snow and ice, and i did manage it again today, although the last mile was pretty painful. this is a very pretty property, and i’m glad i did i got to see it without the snow and ice this time.
there was a lot of winterberry and partridgeberry all over this trail. it was quite festive. the first part of the trail goes through a mature pine woods.
here is the cellarhole for the browning homestead. the trail goes through many more stone walls than i could count, so its history as having been pieced together from several different properties is obvious. but i guess the main part of the area came from the browning family.
this was one of the more impressive stone walls the trail cut through. honestly, there were at least a dozen walls.
the walking on this trail was pretty flat, a good thing for my ankle. but there were still plenty of tricksy roots and hidden stones and stumps. i took it really, really slowly. got passed by at least 3 people. wished them all godspeed. i was hurting pretty badly by the time i got back to my car, but no pain, no gain. uh, right?
i have added this hike to the hikefinder.
