Burlingame-Kimball

4.6 miles; Charlestown, RI

Today was a solo hike and boy howdy the biting black flies were out! We’ve had a frost, so I took the bug spray out of my pack. BIG MISTAKE. I had bare arms and by the end of the hike my arms were bloody. I think this was also my fastest time on this hike. No surprise there!

Red Blueberries

Needless to say, I didn’t spend a lot of time taking pictures, but the red fall foliage of the low-bush blueberries was just too enticing. I know I take this picture every year; I just can’t help myself.

Old Sign

Old Sign

You come across this sign just as you enter Audubon’s Kimball Wildlife Refuge. It looks to have been here a very long time.

This is a kind of made-up hike that consists of some trails on the Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge, a part of the North-South Trail, a part of the Vin Gormley Trail, and some trails on Kimball. Here is my “Auntie’s” map: auntiebeak.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/KettlePond-Kimball-Burlingame.pdf.
