Carolina South

3.58 miles; charlestown, ri

rain was forecast for later this afternoon, so i decided on a quick carolina south loop, just to get some walking in. it was very warm, compared to, well, the last 3 months. good day for a brisk walk.

this is basically the carolina south loop from ken weber’s books, and from the walks in the watershed book. it includes a section of the north-south trail, as well as old roads, and is pretty easy walking, which was how i was able to get such good pace.

at one point you follow the edge of a vast cornfield. i took a panorama shot, but it doesn’t even begin to convey the size of it (as always, click the shot, above for a larger version).

ken weber mentions an old barn in his books. it wasn’t much to look at the first time i came through here, several years ago, and it looks even sadder now. you pick up the north-south trail just beyond here.

he also mentions a beautiful old stone bridge over white brook, and that, at least, is still there, and still quite beautiful.

you can find the carolina south hike in my hikefinder.
