Coogan Farm

1 mile
this was a very sedate garden club stroll through a property that the denison pequotsepos nature center is planning to buy in mystic. it was a very lovely place, and full of interesting features. and cows. there were cows. the dpnc’s plans include connecting trails on this property to their already extensive trail system, which will ultimately wind up as nearly 10 miles of interconnecting trails. should be nice.
it’s a little hard to tell from this photo, apologies, but you have a really sweeping view of the mystic river from the higher points on the farm. the dpnc’s plans also include some selective clearing to open up the view further.
the paths on this property were quite beautifully maintained by bertha and gertrude. that’s bertha that you see in the distance. she does such nice work on the grass.
and here is bertha up close. she has a beautiful brindle coat. coat? is it a coat on a cow? hide, maybe? anyway, the person from the dpnc who led us around the property says bertha and gertrude have been on this farm since the 1980’s. i had no idea cows could get that old. the organization has no intention of displacing them, either. it would hardly be fair, after all these years.
this property is not open to the public as of yet, so i did not post it in the hikefinder.
