Devil’s Hopyard State Park

this was a workout, and i’m going to go ahead and give myself extra calories off for it. lots of up hills and down hills. also poorly marked trails got me lost pretty frequently, so ymmv. literally! very scenic, though. interesting. i meant to do both the orange loop and the red loop (you’ll see what i’m talking about on the map), but the orange loop was so exhausting i’m going to save the red loop for another time.
this is chapman falls, and the speculation is that the name came from the numerous kettle holes the water wore into the rocks. you can read more about the geology and the origins of the name on the connecticut state park web page for this park.
aaaand… another quaint covered bridge to a trail head. this time to the orange vista trail.
and here is the view from the vista of the trail name. note the flush of red from the blooming red maples along the river. i have added this hike to the hikefinder, although, as i said, your mileage may vary.
