Forced March

ooof. i wrote a check my legs almost couldn’t cash. and it was made out to vin gormley. a beautiful march day (good riddance, february), but after 2 months of relative inactivity, this one really hurt. in retrospect, it might have been prudent to start with a shorter hike. hope it doesn’t take me too long to get in shape for the north south trek on march 9!
the old expression goes “it’s an ill wind that blows no good,” and while this winter was a brutal one for trees, it was an excellent one for firewood if you use wood to heat.
once my legs get back into shape, i want to extend the length of the vin gormley to include this side trail, a spur trail to another conservation area in charlestown. today, however wasn’t the day for it!
yeah, this is actually a shot of the trail. there was more than one spot where the trail had turned into an impromptu brook.
and finally there was this odd thing. i didn’t notice it the last time i hiked this stretch of trail, but it looks as if somebody nailed an old root cluster to a dead tree. and probably someone else stuck a blue bottle up top. no idea what it signifies.
you can find info about the vin gormley trail on my hikefinder.
