Freetown SF North

4.5 miles; Freetown, MA
This last minute addition to my schedule at least brings my mileage total for the month to double digits! This was a nice hike mostly on old woods roads, but there are a ton of mountain bike and equestrian trails through here to be explored. Maybe some other time.

CCC Eye Candy
The parking area here has a nice statue and plaque dedicated to the Civilian Conservation Corps. Shirtless, no less.

CCC Waterhole
One of the many thousands of projects undertaken by the CCC was to build waterholes which provided water in case of fires. There are some of these extant in Arcadia as well.

Mosquito Trap
A current government project, as opposed to a 75-year-old one, is mosquito monitoring. These plastic mosquito traps were in some trees along the trail.
As you can see, there are a lot of trails through here, and Freetown SF is huge. You can see the entire map at this Massachusetts state website. As always, click the image above for details about this hike and to download the gps track.
