Great Swamp WMA

★★★★★  5.93 miles

wow, this is a pretty special place. saw tons of birds, and lots of people this morning. two nice women on horses, several photographers, and one lady who was, not kidding, on a snipe hunt… “wilson’s snipe.” saw an osprey catch and release 1 fish, and miss a 2nd. just needed to get out on the trail by myself again. i haven’t hiked alone yet in april! this was great fun. so glad i finally got out here. 100% walkey, no climby.

That is a great walk, but stay away during crazy deer hunting’ season….

We all love this spot, hikers and hunters alike. My understanding is that these lands have been purchased and maintained with Hunting license monies as well as Federal matching funds. After talking to many of the people I encounter, I find that most of the hunters are also Hikers, snow shoers, mountain bikers and cross country skiers .

We should all keep out eyes on what may be happening to Wardens Pond if The golf course is developed out behind Worden’s Pond Village. They intend to draw all the water to maintain the greens from Worden’s pond. That would devastate the ecosystem. Their argument is that the Turf farms can draw from the pond so they can as well…..

WE ALL NEED TO WATCH THIS.
