Ken Weber's Breakheart

7.25 miles; exeter, ri

this was a providence county hiking club outing based on a hike found in 1986’s Walks and Rambles in Rhode Island book, which included 2 miles on a austin farm road, a gravel road. we did the road first, and this turned out to be a very nice hike with, again, perfect october weather. okay, it was a little chilly… it was 34º at start time. but still, once you get moving…

beech and maple leaves covered sections of the trail, making for a magical, if somewhat treacherous, carpet.

as has been the case for most of this month, the foliage is amazing. this is the view from the northern tip of breakheart pond.

and here is the view looking north. gorgeous.

you can find this hike in ken weber’s book, walks and rambles in rhode island, published by backcountry press in 1986, which, in turn, you can find on amazon.
