Kettle Pond-Kimball-Burlingame Loop

4.7 miles; charlestown, ri

i don’t know, the mileage on this hike changes every time i do it. of course, today it was like elebenty-billion degrees outside, so i went in as straight a line as possible… didn’t stop to take many photos, either. this is a great hike if you don’t mind the part that goes through the campground. hey, there are bathrooms, so how bad could that part be? it basically consists of about 1/3 vin gormley trail, 1/3 north south trail, and 1/3 unblazed mountain bike tracks with a bit of the kettle pond visitor’s center trail system thrown in for good measure.

saw this while i was walking through the campground. i can just imagine that it’s a project devised by desperate adults to keep the kids busy and out of trouble. i love the colors, though.

then there was this—a massive blow down on one of the boardwalks on the north-south trail south of the vin gormley trail. another hike almost thwarted! but fortunately it wasn’t too wet in this area, and i was able to go around. and i dutifully reported the location and problem to the trails committee of the amc narragansett chapter, the group responsible for the blazed trails in burlingame.

if you want to report a problem with an amc-maintained trail (which is any blazed trail in burlingame or arcadia), you can go to this page: http://www.amcnarragansett.org, and click on 3rd bullet in the “notices and reminders” section.

you can find this hike in the hikefinder, but don’t trust the mileage! i’m thinking the mileage at the top of this post is closest to correct. trailhead, auntie’s trail map.
