Maxwell Mayes Preserve

4.21 miles; coventry, ri

there aren’t too many places i want to hike on saturdays during hunting season. audubon preserves are best, because there is no hunting allowed ever. which really leaves some not bad places in rhode island, max mayes among them. if you do some re-tracing here you can get over 4 miles in. so i did. good, if very cold, day.

carr pond is at the end of carr pond trail, duh, and you circle around about 180º of it. there are some private residences on this property, so you don’t get to circumnavigate the pond.

the famous “smoking frog” rock

the smoking frog is the highlight of the hammitt hill trail.

you can find maxwell mayes in the hikefinder, and i’ve added a new auntie map to that listing.
