at last i got to walk this final bit of the narragansett trail! part of this stretch has been closed since last october per the rod and gun club through which it passes; it opened april 1. i liked it a lot. it has a less-travelled feeling to it south of the green falls gorge. nothing too strenuous, but a few small climbs.
here is the signage you encounter at both ends of the trail where it passes through the rod and gun club property. also, you can see it was a simply beautiful day with temps in the high 60’s to low 70’s. first really spring-feeling day this year.
i’ve been gardening for years and years, but i could never come up with a design like this. nature is the best gardener of all.
there was a small cemetery on the rod and gun club property. this was the only stone i saw. someone had planted daffodils.
also on the rod and gun club property there were target-practice animals sprinkled throughout the woods. the first one i saw was a large cougar or panther or something. caught it out of the corner of my eye and it gave me a bit of a start! i think this is some sort of rock sheep?
i believe this was past the rod and gun club property. it’s a beautiful old cellar hole. tiny, though. can’t imagine it was a house… maybe an outbuilding of some sort with a root cellar.
i have added this hike to the hikefinder.
