today’s hike was yet another providence county hiking club walk, this time through parker woodlands. we did the whole thing and people weren’t really too interested in the cairns by the time we got to them. still a nice walk on a nice day.
this property is owned by the audubon society, and it has lots to offer, including the mysterious aforementioned rock cairns, old stone cellarholes, a revolutionary war carriage road, and a stone table. it’s a decent workout, too, with lots of ups and downs, and a bit of rock scrambling.
the blazes are barely visible in places and the signage, as you can see from the first picture, could use a refresh as well. but the trails are pretty obvious and are marked well enough that you can’t really get lost.
there were lots of beech drops in one stretch. these are plants that lack both chlorophyll and leaves, and get their nourishment from the roots of beech trees. they are also a medicinal herb that can be used as an astringent.
you can find parker woodland in the hikefinder.
