PCHC North-South Trail, Leg 10

9.3 miles; richmond and charlestown, ri

this was my least favorite leg yet, in spite of the fact that part was along the vin gormley trail, my favorite trail. burlingame management area is nasty for footing, very rocky. and endless! but only one more leg to go now.

early morning conjunction

i started off this morning in darkness, although you can kind of see the beginnings of sunrise, along with a planetary conjunction, and yes, i could go look it up and tell you which planets, but meh. too lazy today.

touch of frost

touch of frost

there was a touch of frost on the ground this morning too. i guess we will have started and ended the north-south trail in cold weather. i can remember icy spots on that first leg in douglas.

this leg of the hike began on the southern part of carolina management area, and it’s dove season. there were lots of hunters out this morning.

we finished up in burlingame wildlife management area and state park, but between the two was a long, 3-mile stretch of road walking. not my favorite, but actually preferable to the rocky footing in burlingame north. the rocky surface was also covered in leaves, so you never knew where you were stepping. there was more profanity per mile on this stretch than any other.

there are some sweet ledges on this part of the vin gormley, and one of our group can’t resist climbing them.

i have not added this hike to my hikefinder. you can find info on the north-south trail here.
