finally! a nice, long hike through a state forest—just what i was looking for. i’m assuming this forest gets regularly logged, as the trees were all in nice tidy rows, but it was still pretty cool. there was also plenty of evidence of regular burning, and i saw some wildlife and some evidence of wildlife, too.
saw quite a few raccoon tracks, along with deer tracks and fox scat.
also met this camera-shy florida box turtle. i waited for a minute, but he wasn’t coming out.
there were a few boardwalks, including this one which crossed pine log creek.
the state does controlled burning, and you could see evidence of that through this section. also, the saw palmettos thrive in burned areas, and that was pretty obvious here, too.
the obligatory fungus shot. not sure what this is.
you can find information about pine log state forest on the florida state forest service website.
