Pisgah NF Mullinax Loop

So even though I’ve basically not been blogging, I haven’t actually stopped hiking, though you could be forgiven for thinking so. Yesterday I did a hike in the Pisgah National Forest. It was… how shall I say? An “adventure.”
Sproingy bridge!
I noticed right away when researching this hike that there were several water crossings over an actual river, the South Branch of the Mills River. I figured I’d check the closest water crossing first to make sure there were bridges. And there were! A gorgeous suspension foot brige that was fun to cross because it was “sproingy.” “So cool,” I think to myself. “There’re bridges!”

A long stretch of this hike kind of follows the banks of the river, and the views were lovely.
Um, What?
And here was the 2nd river crossing. Yup. No bridge. It was 4 1/4 miles into a 5-mile loop, so I was sure as heck not going back. And thus I found out that my iPhone, my Apple Watch, and my car key fob are all water resistant. Ask me how?
Yup, first of all, this is about 25 to 30 feet wide. Second, it was mid-thigh deep (on me). Third, OF COURSE I tripped 1/2 way across and got VERY VERY wet.
