Solstice Hike

for my solstice hike this year i picked barn island. okay, honestly? i forgot it was the solstice. i had an errand in stonington, and i now tailor my errands around hikes. i hadn’t been to barn island in a few weeks, so i thought i’d do my errand and get in a quick visit.
drainage canals
you can see the drainage canals that were cut into the salt marsh in a vain attempt at mosquito control, i think sometime in the 20s. not sure

Am I the only person who loves the winter solstice? There’s something comforting about it.
