Tefft Hill and Browning Mill Pond

7.35 miles; exeter and richmond, ri
another couple of hikes i linked together to get extra miles in preparation for hiking in ireland (have i mentioned i’m going to be hiking in ireland?). it was not as hot as it had been, but still very humid and buggy.
this is a “milky” mushroom, so-called because of the white latex that leaks out when it’s bruised or cut. some of these are edible, and some are not, and i don’t know which is which, so i just document them.
this seems to be the season for chicken mushrooms. i saw tons today, and since i’ve already collected enough, i just, again, documented them. this is an amazingly beautiful specimen.
another kind of chicken. i have no idea what the tree was that they are growing on, and i’ve heard you shouldn’t eat any chickens that are growing on conifers. anyway, i’m keeping my eye open now for the elusive “hen of the woods” mushroom. these are my favorite to collect, and you don’t need many because they’re so big. so far lots of chickens and no hens.
this is such a pretty pond no matter the time of the year.
you can find both tefft hill and browning mill pond in the hikefinder. trailhead, trail map browning mill pond, arcadia trail, and tefft hill, courtesy ri dem, with my track added to their map.
