The Grills

took a friend to visit this preserve and discovered that the blue trail that goes over kedinker island was closed for bridge repairs. bummer. that’s the prettiest introduction to the grills… but we got to see the cemetery and the polly coon bridge from the other side, so it wasn’t a total loss.
i contacted the westerly land trust about this, and got this nice reply from their executive director, kelly presley:
The contractor is scheduled to start work soon. We hope that the closure will not be more than a few weeks but until the work begins, we do not have a definitive time frame.
i’ll try and keep everyone posted.
the wood anemones (Anemone quinquefolia) were in bloom throughout the preserve. there were some really lovely patches.
and while i’m interested in solving mysteries, does anyone have any idea about this? it’s the surface of a large stone that’s in the path on the blue trail. there are several of these. i know it looks like a giant trilobite or something, but it’s not. it’s just a piece of stone that someone cut lines into for whatever mysterious reason. i’m stumped.
you can find the grills in the hikefinder. trailhead, auntie’s trail map.
