West Warwick Bike Path

2.6 miles; Warwick and West Warwick, RI
Some friends and I were determined to complete as much as we could of the Washington Secondary Bike Path through RI, even though one of us had a serious knee injury. We waited, and cut down the mileage, and today got in another 2 1/2 miles. The weather was clear and sunny and brisk, perfect hiking weather.

First River Crossing
This bike trail crosses the Pawtuxet River several times. This was the first crossing, a trestle bridge of impressive ironwork.

A Bit Frosty
We got an early start, around 8:15 or so, and the frost hadn’t melted off the leaves (or the bridges) yet.

Mullein
Sad plant. I know how it feels… I hate the onset of cold weather, mainly because I know snow must be coming at some point. And that really will keep me inside.

Bradford Soap Works Dam
This is one of the few still-functioning mills in the area. The Bradford Soap Works company was founded in 1876, and moved to this location in West Warwick in 1931. There is no mistaking the nature of their product, either, as you walk through this part of the town. The smell of soap fills the air.
You can find out more about and get maps of the Washington Secondary Bike Path at this RI Dept. of Transportation website. As always, click the image above for details about this hike and to download the gps track.
