PCHC North-South Trail, Leg 3

9.3 miles; glocester, ri and killingly, ct this was a great hike and a good, if small, group. the weather was fine for hiking; cool and mostly overcast, but the mosquitoes were horrible. we really moved out, just out of self-preservation. this section of the north-south trail starts at the george washington campground in burriville, […]

Erisman Woods and Babcock Ridge

6.6 miles; north stonington, ct since these two preserves are such short walks, i decided to stretch them by walking to them from my house, which added considerable mileage. these are both really nifty properties, with a moderate climb up from erisman woodlands and a very steep climb down from the ridge that runs between reuteman road […]

Goldstar Bridge

5 miles; groton and new london, ct i always wanted to see what this pedestrian walkway along the goldstar bridge between groton and new london was like, and since i had a fairly long wait in store at my groton car dealership’s service department for a recall fix, now i know. it’s a long-assed bridge—very […]

Airline Trail & Robbins Preserve

4.13 miles; thompson, ct i guess the providence county hiking club was too optimistic about trail conditions even at this late date, because the originally-scheduled hike was another tri-state trek, but there was waaaay too much snow on the airline trail, so we punted and visited a wyndham land trust property also in thompson. it […]

Spring Peepers 2015!

nope, not a hiking post, per se, but i did take a short stroll up to my neighbors’ front field tonight, where there’s a gigantic vernal pond. they call it “lake will-be-gone.”  and guess what? the peepers and wood frogs were almost deafening! yep. i think spring’s coming soon. any day now.
