Narragansett Trail, Green Falls Pond to Rt. 49

4.88 miles  2.3 mph at last i got to walk this final bit of the narragansett trail! part of this stretch has been closed since last october per the rod and gun club through which it passes; it opened april 1. i liked it a lot. it has a less-travelled feeling to it south of […]

Pachaug SF, Pharisee Rock Trail

4.44 miles   2.4 mph did a quick out-and-back because i’m still nursing a sore muscle in my calf. the first part of this trail was on the blue-blazed pachaug trail, and aside from the usual atv and dirt bike damage, both of these trails were really interesting. they went through an abandoned farm and […]

Big Mount Misery Loop

8.56 miles   ★★½ i had so much fun doing the (almost) 8-mile vin gormley trail on monday that i decided to do another 8-miler, this time in the pachaug state forest. well, i found out there’s a big difference between (almost) 8 miles on a flat, well-traveled footpath and 8 1/2 miles on what were […]

High Ledges, Legendwood Rd.

5.84 miles   ★★★★ very strenuous hike. there were places in this trail which required some all fours work (going up) and some butt skootching (going down), and the climbing on the narragansett trail was bad enough, but legendwood road is a mess, and apparently uphill both directions. still pretty amazing scenery. met two ladies who […]

Green Falls Gorge

4.04 miles   ★★★★½ “usual suspects” hike. beautiful day for a beautiful trail. it was dry, cool (it was 46° this morning when i got up!) and sunny. of course, the worst part of the hike was the mile on the road at the end, but in exchange, you get to go hike the gorge. fair enough! […]

Narragansett Trail/Green Fall Gorge

★★★½  3.87 miles did this on april 30, but this time went with a group; the SE-CT adventurers. it seemed shorter this time, but it’s still a very nice hike. it might be worth doing in the opposite direction next time, so the boring road mile isn’t at the end.
